BLINK FRICTION First Issue
Welcome to the first issue of Blink Friction, a publication born from the belief that creativity and thought-provoking storytelling are not just luxuries but essential tools for navigating the complexities of modern life. As a musician, author, artist, and founder of Goddamn Media, the Brighton Arts Club, and currently Tale Teller Club, I have spent my life at the intersection of culture, commerce, and community. This publication represents the culmination of that journey—a platform where diverse voices and ideas converge to reflect, challenge, and inspire.
We live in turbulent times. From the echo chambers of Trump-era politics to the ongoing repercussions of global conflicts and the relentless drive of commerce, the world often feels fractured and alienating. Yet, history has shown us that in times of division, creativity can be a unifying force. Art, humour, and storytelling have the power to bridge divides, challenge orthodoxies, and offer hope. This publication is my way of contributing to that vital dialogue.
In this first issue, you’ll find stories that embody these ideals. The Countess of Brighton and Hackney Diaries brings wit and satire to life with tales that explore themes of power, identity, and the absurdities of modern existence through the lens of 17th-century grandeur. Beneath the flamboyance lies a subtle critique of societal norms and the delicate interplay between individuality and community.
Meanwhile, The Book of Immersion takes you into a vividly imagined world of creativity and resilience, exploring themes of renewal and transformation against the backdrop of digital and human interconnection. The serialised chapters will captivate and challenge readers, offering a narrative that mirrors the complexity of our times while celebrating the infinite potential of artistic expression.
For the younger members of your household, we’ve reserved a special place for The Rat Gang Crew and Friends. This series is more than an adventure—it’s a platform for fostering conversations about collaboration, resilience, and the importance of seeing the world through diverse perspectives. We will always ensure that our publication has something for the whole family, offering children a window into creative storytelling while subtly exploring issues like environmental stewardship and tolerance.
In future issues, we’ll dive deeper into the intersections of art, culture, and society. Expect incisive articles that interrogate the role of media in shaping our values, interviews with artists who are redefining their fields, and poetry that captures the zeitgeist of our era. All this, paired with striking visual artistry, will make each edition nothing like a regular magazine but a work of art in its own right—a collectable that belongs on your coffee table for years to come.
As we navigate the challenges of our time, Blink Friction offers a space where creativity meets conscience, and where humour and intellect converge to remind us of our shared humanity. We hope you’ll join me in this endeavour and make this publication a part of your family’s story.
Welcome to Blink Fiction, creating the extraordinary.
